NOVAK DJOKOVIC – NEW WORLD NUMBER ONE

As of Monday 4th July 2011, tennis has a new name at the peak of the sport and his name is Novak Djokovic. The Serbian has enjoyed a stellar year so far, losing just one match to date and on Sunday is going for his eigth title of the year.

How Djokovic reached the pinnacle of tennis:

2010

Toronto – Semi-Final

Cincinnati – Quarter-Final

US Open – Final

Beijing – WIN

Shanghai – Semi-Final

Paris Bercyh – R16

London World Tour Finals – Semi-Final

2011

Australian Open – WIN

Dubai – WIN

Indian Wells – WIN

Miami – WIN

Belgrade – WIN

Madrid – WIN

Rome – WIN

Paris Roland Garros – Semi-Final

Wimbledon – Final (Pending)

So Djokovic becomes the 25th man to reach world number-one, but they say the most difficult part is staying there. Nadal managed less than a year the first time he took it in August 2008, Ferrero managed only 8 weeks, Roddick 13 … do you believe Djokovic will be the man at the top for weeks, months or maybe even years ? Is Nadal the only realistic contender to take the place away from him or can Murray/Del Potro/even Federer retain his place ?
