Nadal leads major player protest over safety at rain-hit U.S. Open

U.S. Open officials have decided to begin their fourth-round matches despite the courts being still wet, so top tennis players Andy Roddick, Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal have joined together to protest. Their fourth round matches Wednesday lasted only fifteen minutes as rain halted play again.The three players met with tournament referee Brian Earley to discuss their concerns with having to play on wet courts. Andy Roddick told ESPN in an interview that: “I think if its up for discussion whether the courts playable or not, well then that probably means its not playable”. The players are concerned with their safety, the officials believe conditions are not ideal but still safe to play. Rain is in the forecast for the rest of the week.
